House to House issue #1, Volume #18, had an article setting forth some interesting Bible facts. Of particular interest were the numbers associated with certain facts about, though not necessarily in, the Bible. There are 1260 promises in the Bible, 6,468 commands, 3,294 questions, 31,102 verses, and 773,692 words. No information is given as to who actually counted all of these various notes of interest, and I can assure you that I have no immediate (or long range plans) to authenticate the accuracy of these figures.

Digging a little deeper, I found some interesting triplets that appear in God's word. Jude was evidently fond of using triplets and even a causal reading of that short epistle will reveal the following groups of three: "Mercy, peace, love"(verse 2); three examples of punishment seen in Egypt, disobedient angels, and the cities

The Devil is not eternal like God, but he is just as real. The Bible says that Satan is the deceiver of the entire world. "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Revelation 12:9) The Devil is busy seeking man's spiritual destruction. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." (1 Peter 5:6-9) The Devil caused sin to be in the world. (Genesis 3) Sickness, death, disappointment and discouragement are all the working of Satan. Man is tempted ...

The title of this week's article comes from the lead-in statement in an opinion page on Fox News website. Following the lead-in statement the author writes: "After all the very visible fighting about public displays of religious symbols - from 10 Commandments plaques to graveyard crosses to faith-themed war memorials to holiday manger displays - you might have developed the impression that most Americans don't think the Bible matters today and they like it that way. You'd be wrong." Drawing from research conducted by The American Bible Society, the author focuses on what the Society calls the "state of the Bible" in America. Here is what this year's research uncovered: The majority of Americans (69%) believe the Bible provides answers on how to live a meaningful life. In addition, 79% consider themselves knowledgeable about the Bible.

Life after death is not exclusive to New Testament Christianity. The question presented in the title of this article is as ancient as man himself. Job asked this question (Job 14:14), and the answer from heaven, both to Job and the faithful patriarchs of old, has been a resounding “yes”! Men have embraced that hope in a world that is otherwise filled with doubt and despair. In the rock-hewn tombs of the Pharaohs by the Nile River have been found these words: “The dead shall live again!” Belief in immortality led the Egyptians to perfect the art of embalming in order that the body could be preserved for the afterlife. The Greeks and the Romans believed in life after death as well. The Romans often made their tombs so large that a lamp could be kept burning on a reserve of fuel for many years. One of the provisions in the Will and Testament of Caruso, was for a large candle to be so constructed that it would refuel itself and burn for one-hundred-fifty

“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15) (1)

The question of the Deity of Christ is debated by many. The atheist denies the existence of God. The Jehovah’s Witnesses claim Christ was a created being. The Mormon believes Christ was a man who became a god. Muslims declare Christ was simply a prophet of Allah. The answer does not rely upon the decision of any individual or group. Jesus is either Deity or He is not based upon fact. Most Christians believe Jesus is Deity based upon the belief the Bible is a God-breathed, inerrant, word for word record by which God wants man to pattern his life. It is therefore the final authority of examination for all answers man derives (2 Peter 1:2-3). In ...

"Was there ever, thousands of years ago, a personage named Abraham?" was the beginning sentence of the cover story in the December 2001 issue of National Geographic.

Nine years later, the same question was asked in the December 2010 issue of the same publication about Kings David and Solomon.

In both issues, the same answer was given: there is no way to prove any of them ever existed.

Tad Szulc, the author of the 2001 article on Abraham wrote, "Without any proof of the Patriarch's existence, the search for a historical Abraham is even more difficult than the search for a historical Jesus."

When dealing with the possibility that Abraham actually existed, Szulc maintains the same response, "no evidence."
In the 2010 article on David and Solomon, author Robert Draper makes a similar statement. "despite decades of searching, archeologists had found no ...

What is man? That is the question that David himself contemplated in the 8th Psalm. What is man that thou art mindful of him? Some claim that this is actually a declarative statement, "What is man!" because of where God has placed him. But I stand with the vast majority of commentators and translators who see this as a serious question. What is man?

What is man that we deserve what God has done for us? What did we ever do to warrant the place of authority that we have been given on this earth? What have we done to warrant God's grace? We have done nothing worthy of such blessings. In fact we have done nothing to warrant the attention of the eternal and omniscient God.

Yet God visits us. He visited those of old through personal ways as He saw fit. He visited mankind in general through Jesus Christ. He visits us still, though far less obvious. He visits us through His providential care, and through His continued blessings.

    God's providence ...

"The Bible Tells Me So" By Jeff Grimes

My son Keith often leads, what is no doubt one of the all time favorite in children’s songs, “Jesus Loves Me.” We are all familiar with the words— “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so….” When singing these familiar lines are we conscience of the great truth they express?

In fact, if it were not for the Bible, how would we know Jesus loves us? Would it be possible to study the stars and come to such knowledge? Could such truth be ascertained by studying ancient and modern history? How about through scientific investigation? Technology and science has advanced at an amazing rate over the last twenty or so years. Have you ever watched the TV show, “The New Detectives?” Through the use of modern technology, and forensic science, twenty-year-old crimes can now be solved.

Yet, with all the wisdom, and knowledge of “modern man” he cannot come to a knowledge of God through his ...

Thank you and hello everyone. Welcome to the program sponsored by your friends at the Arkland Church of Christ. I say friends because these people love and are concerned about your eternal destiny. They love you and want to help.

Have you ever thought how much we’re influenced by the way people think? Philosophies have influenced mankind for centuries. It is said Alexander the Great was tutored by a philosopher, Aristotle. Philosophers, like John Locke were at the heart of the creation of the American democracy.

Hollywood has more influence on us than we know. The fruit of this is being seen with how many people are relating their understanding of ethics and morality on the basis of what they’ve seen in movies. Understanding this, actors have been taking center stage to share their philosophies and they’re trying to influence the world.

The most evil king and queen of Israel influenced the tiny nation of Judah. It was Ahab and Jezebel ...
