"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all..." (Ephesians 4:4-6)
Normally, I do not dwell very much on fundamentals in these articles. I have tried to make it my aim to write about topics that we don't usually teach very often. In this issue, however, I want to examine a rather larger and more extensive view on the subject of "baptisms" in the New Testament. As stated in Hebrews 5:12-6:3, even this expanded consideration—that of a variety of different immersions—is topically included in rather fundamental or basic instruction for Christians, before they reach the point where they begin to do more teaching to other Christians than learning from other Christians who have already come to the point where they teach the church. Certainly, all of the topics listed in this passage in Hebrews should be of great interest to, and learned by, all Christians.

Jesus, the messiah of mankind, lived a life in the flesh like no other man. His words and his actions perfectly fit the pattern prescribed by God the Father (John 5:30, John 12:49-50). That all men save Jesus fall short of the Glory of God is factual (Romans 3:23). Yet, many who declare themselves prepared for faithful commitment to God soon find themselves transgressing against their vows to serve him. Their declaration of service comes before considering the cost – their life (Galatians 2:20). Jesus spoke about this in the parable of the sower.

    Matthew 13:20-21
And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

How many souls have walked the path of those words? Hearts praise God every time a sinner comes to Him and humbly calls upon ...

I never cease to be amazed at the overwhelming evidence of design that so engulfs our world. Only the fool would say there is no God. I recently came across this little tid-bit of information regarding water. It serves as a constant reminder that "God hath not left Himself without witness."

"Water is one of the most plentiful and, at the same time, most necessary substances on earth. Obviously, we know that it is necessary to drink six to eight glasses of water per day to have good health. We need water for cooking, for cleansing and many other essential daily functions. However, water has many more essential properties and necessary functions beyond what we normally think. Water has the property of absorbing vast quantities of oxygen at low temperatures. This makes life possible for the creatures of the seas and the lakes. Water has the unusual property that its maximum density is at four degrees centigrade, ...

I Corinthians 1:17—This scripture is one of the most perverted, misunderstood, and misapplied passages in the entire Bible. In discussing the plan of salvation with our friends in the denominational world, and trying to get them to see the importance, as well as the purpose of being scripturally baptized; invariably they will call your attention to this verse. Here Paul says: “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.” They quickly emphasize Paul’s statement, “For Christ sent me not to baptize…”, therefore, they reason that if baptism had really been important, then Paul would have never made such a statement.

One important principle in understanding a passage of scripture is considering the immediate context (verses before and after) in which the passage under consideration is found. Someone has said, ...
